The term "anti-angiogenesis" was first proposed by Dr. Judah Folkman in 1971 following a series of brilliant observations around blood vessel proliferation. For decades, skeptics refused to accept this idea. In 2004, the FDA approved the first "pure play" anti-angiogenic compound. After over 30 years of persistence, Dr. Folkman is now recognized as the father of this important and emerging field of research.
There are now thousands of publications each year based on the principles of angiogenesis. Below are a few that are relevant to the SynDevRx technology and mission.

Summary |
24-Hour Oscillation of Mouse Methionine Aminopeptidase 2, a Regulator of Tumor
Progression, Is Regulated by Clock Gene |
Nakagawa, et al. 2004 |
MetAP2 plays an important role in the
growth of not only endothelial cells during the tumor angiogenesis |
The Hallmarks of Cancer |
Hanahan, Jan. 2000 |
Research has revealed cancer to be a disease involving dynamic changes in the genome. |
Effect of physicochemical modification on the biodistribution and
tumor accumulation of HPMA copolymers |
Lammers, June 2005 |
This paper looks at the relationship between HPMA molecular weight and blood circulation time. |
Inhibition of vessel permeability by Caplostatin |
Satchi-Fainaro, March 2005 |
It is known that blood vessels supplying tumors and sites of inflammation are hyperpermeable to plasma and
plasma proteins. Caplostatin reduces plasma macromolecule extravasation ("leakiness") from the hyperpermeable vasculature. |
Targeting Angiogenesis with a conjugate of HPMA co-polymer and TNP-470 |
Satchi-Fainaro, Folkman, March 2004 |
The drug accumulated selectively in tumor vessels because of the EPR effect, and substantially enhanced and prolonged the activity of the active molecule while avoiding drug-related toxicities. |
An orally delivered small-molecule formulation with
antiangiogenic and anticancer activity |
Benny, Folkman, 2008 |
In this work we report an oral antiangiogenic polymeric drug with
potent antitumor and antimetastatic efficacy named Lodamin. |
